La Botera (D.O. Terra Alta)

Vins La Botera is located in Batea, a town in the Catalan region of Terra Alta with a deeply rooted winegrowing tradition. Actually, D.O. Terra Alta has not only managed to maintain itself but has flourished considerably in recent years.

Founded in 1986, La Botera was created with the purpose of transforming and commercializing the fruit produced by its partners, all of them experienced vine growers. In its early days Vins La Botera only traded wines in bulk, but nowadays it sells young white, red and rosé wines, as well as Crianzas of great quality. All their wines express the characteristics and differentiation deriving from the Terra Alta terroirs.
 

La Botera has placed itself at the forefront of the winemaking world through the introduction of innovation and modernity to its products, without forgetting the tradition and quality for which it has always been known. This becomes apparent both in the land and the winemaking facilities. The partners have restructured and enlarged their vineyards with the incorporation of varieties such as Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot, whist at the same time maintaining the local varieties such as White Grenache, Red Grenache, Macabeo and Samsó (Carignan).


La Botera wines:

L'Arnot Blanc (white) 60% White Grenache, 40% Macabeo - White Grenache offers its distinct golden colour, bright and fluid in the glass, combining aromas of white fruits and marmalade. Macabeo gives a rich freshness on entering into the mouth. It has a long aftertaste.


L'Arnot Rosat (rosé) 100% Merlot - A black cherry coloured wine with orange tones. Intense berries aroma. Persistent over time in the glass and in the mouth as well, since its balanced acidity and high alcohol level, typical for this area. Its mouthcoating texture leaves an intense aftertaste as a rosé and sweet wine which invites to taste and relish again.

L'Arnot Negre (red) 50% Grenache, 50% Syrah - L'Arnot stands for our traditional winemaking techniques. It was (and still is) an element made of wicker which helps proper extraction of aromatic compounds and colour pigments from the skins. This is a bright and purple coloured wine, fluid in the glass. It shows berries aromas and gives a fresh feeling in the mouth, with a slightly tannic note.

Vila-Closa Garnatxa Blanca (white) 100% White Grenache - This wine is the result of the enthusiasm for offering an absolutely genuine wine from Terra Alta, #1 White Grenache producer region in the world. The fruit comes from a combination of aged vineyards let over-ripen and young ones harvested with a hint of acidity, thus resulting very balanced to the palate. It undergoes a few months of ageing over its own lees in steel tanks, in order to gain some body and creaminess. It shows aromas of fruits and white flowers, as well as some pastry hints.

 
Vila-Closa Rubor (rosé) 50% Grenache, 50% Syrah -


Vila-Closa Negre (red) 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Carignan / 2 months in oak barrels - Intense purplish colour, bright and fluid in the glass. It shows a wide aromatic range dominated by berries and minerals. Pleasant and fruity in the mouth, with a light hint of toast and smoke.

Vila-Closa Chardonnay (white) 100% Chardonnay / Fermented and aged for 3 months in oak barrels - Golden coloured and varied aroma, with truffle notes combined with flowers. It shows a mouthcoating feeling and a balanced acidity on the finish.

Mudèfer (red) 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Carignan / 9 to 12 months in oak barrels - Whis Crianza wine shows a bright and sharp surface with a ruby red colour and intense aroma. It shows a wide range of subtle tones of toasted and smoked fruits on a background of over-ripe berries, almost candied. Wide and generous on the palate, it fives a velvety feeling with well rounded tannins. Despite it deepness, the freshness found at the nose with those berries will be met again. That helps to balance its high alcohol level and invites to enjoy it one more.

Bruna Dolçor (sweet) 50% Grenache, 50% Syrah / 3 months in oak barrels - Intense and bright red ruby colour. Raisiny aroma with plums and fig tones, and species such as clove and cinnamon. It can be appreciated a great density while poured. On the palate, it shows a velvety and voluminous feeling with a surprising subtle acidity as well as smooth sweet tones.
